Topic/Skill: Grammar Review (Simple Past, Simple Future, and Present Perfect)
Teacher Presentation: After reviewing the homework assignment from last class, Dr. Rios presented students with a handout on specific rules for the pronunciation of different -ed sound endings.
Classroom Management: Dr. Rios didn't specifically time anything, but regularly checked in with students as they progressed through exercises in order to give them sufficient time to complete their work.
Materials: Textbook, Pen/Pencils, Paper, Pronunciation Handout
Student Participation: Students read aloud instructions, read aloud definitions of tenses, and completed practice sentences of the tenses reviewed.
Feedback Provided: Dr. Rios would speak clearly and emphasize corrections in his own speech. He would ask the student to repeat themselves if something was wrong, which would typically prompt the student to recognize their mistake.
Lesson(s) on Teaching I Learned: I learned how to weave instruction, feedback, tips/tricks, and learn about students at the same time. The structure was informative and frequently switched between topics in a way to keep students engaged throughout the class. I specifically liked how Dr. Rios gave feedback during the Simple Future section. He would have students read their sentence, say a number that indicated how many errors there were in the sentence, then give the student an opportunity to fix their sentence before helping them with any corrections that remained.
